Fred Wilson is a New York VC who writes one of the best blogs on being a VC in the social network space. So you would think that he would have what it takes, and the cash to pay, to move his blog from avc.blogs.com to avc.com. It seems so easy but it was not until he realised that he was missing lots of “customers” that he realised that all was not well and that his Google juice was way down. Monthly visits dropped by ~15,000 to 95,639.
As always Fred Wilson spells out the reasons and his web guy apologises.
In his comments, I asked how he managed to acquire such a great URL as avc.com and the reply was “I waited and waited for it to become available and then made them an offer they couldn’t refuse when they stopped using it actively”!
Perhaps one day I will get an offer I cannot refuse for yomp.com.
