Cambridge Cluster

Image via Wikipedia The ninth Cambridge Enterprise Conference is on 17 September 2008 at Churchill College, Cambridge to discuss how to accelerate growth – what they term tigers.The conference used to include a VC from the USA but now it is all home grown people and will be the swan-song for Walter Herriot OBE as he starts an autumn of celebration before his retirement at the end of the year.

For such a workaholic, I am sure that a new post will be offered as his communication skills are needed.  And he can always give good advice to people starting up as he reminds them of the horrors of having a Father (no doubt a wonderful man) who took the family through the many ups and downs of his businesses.  I hope that there will not be too much talk of doing without VCs and soft-starts.  The only soft-start I know of which turned into a very successful company is Geneva Technology which was founded by the Edwards.  Only one VC is mentioned as a sponsor.

It will be an emotional and nostalgic day for the old timers in the Cambridge Cluster.  Let us hope people keep thinking of producing a business plan with an Equity Fingerprint.
