Cambridge Cluster company, ip.access, has just announed an investmnet by Cisco to help build its “femtocells” home networking technology business. Femtocells will provide users with their own base station at home for the rapid download of video and other data from the mobile phone system but delivered by the Internet to the house. Great for me as my Orange signal is terrible.
Ip.access escaped from TTP Comm in Melbourne in the glory days of 1999 and has been funded by many of the VCs (except 3i) who built CSR and did so well.
Not much information on investors from the ip.access web pages or directors but only a list of managers. You can be sure the VCs are represented on the board.
Presumably the Equity Fingerprint will be similar to that of CSR. CSR was spun out of Cambridge Consultants, no kitchen table and hard times for these founders, with initial funds from VCs and then industry giants.
The management will be on options and waiting for their shares to vest before the big payout.
The common thread as in so many Cambridge Cluster companies ; Herman Hauser and Amadeus. Hope they repeat the success at Artimi.
