Just general chat that private medicine is down and people are no longer paying for the upkeep of their bodies by cash but using credit cards or, more worryingly, just carrying the injury.
When did this last happen?
More chat is that people in the building trade working as sub-contractors on public sector work are finding that contractors further up the feeding chain are finding reasons for delaying payment and/or disputing the quality of work. In short finding any reason to put off paying. The contractors down the feeding chain are at great risk to a company in the chain going bust. Sleepless nights for all except the public sector workers at the top of the chain.
It was with near disbelief that I pulled out a fancy recruitment section out of the Daily Telegraph for jobs in the already bloated public sector. This plus the enormous amount I needed to have saved to generate an inflation proof pension. Many people in the private sector do not appreciate the benefits of those in the public sector nor the 3x multiple of salary, at least, people must earn to be as well off.
Why does the teaching guru in Cambridge need a chauffeur driven Mercedes for work. Why can he not get up earlier and use trains and buses? Too grand? How do Heads feel when the inspectors travel in style?
There are going to be great changes in the world economies and as Marc Andreessen says it is very sad that many, many people are going to get hurt but the winner will be the Internet and a new wave of businesses.
Change of this magnitude is going to place huge pressures on our leaders and all of us.
