The Cambridge Evening News reports that there have been over 70 applicants to succeed Walter Herriot OBE as director of the St John’s Innovation Centre. We are told that it is a “plum job” and even “one or two well-known names” have applied.
Anne Dobree – made an offer she could not resist, I hear – has rejoined Cambridge Enterprise as a Business Development Manager and left the tough world of the private sector after only a few months. Cambridge Enterprise now boasts a team of 36 managers and assorted hangers on. I did not see any adverts for this job and no reports of well-known names applying.
Is it time to slim down some of these overheads and encourage more people to see the “plum job” as being an entrepreneur and building global businesses?
It is time for a changing of the guards. Let us hope that we get an outsider to bring a blast of fresh air into the Cambridge Cluster.
