The Guardian has a long article on Facebook and how some VCs are funded by the CIA. The defense ministries have always funded technology and I think that MIT receives considerable funding from this source. One Boston person told me that is why most Boston start-ups are based on consultancy rates and is the major difference with Silicon Valley.
